Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles

After seeing them at the Best New Bands of 2008 along with Caroline Smith, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles and I keep colliding paths.

It was a need for concert tickets that brought me to the Electric Fetus on a Thursday evening. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they were having a few live bands in the store that night for their first ever MinnEconomy session (a monthly showcase of bands, artists and designers from the great state of Minnesota). The aisles of the Electric Fetus were lined with some of the local crowd as Lucy Michelle and company took the stage. It was just a small, low key show which went on without the band’s bassist, Jesse Schuster, who was absent for unknown reasons. The band seemed at ease and you could tell they were there having a good time. Two more local acts followed The Lapelles for the monthly MinnEconomy, Solid Gold and Rocket Club, which I unfortunately couldn’t stay for due to bus scheduling.  : /

Here is a blurry picture I managed to snap with my phone…

Being a string player myself, I always love seeing bands use cellos, violins, upright-bass, etc. in their ensemble. The Lapelles also make use of the accordion in several of their songs.

You can pick up Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles’ album  Orange Peels and Rattlesnakes at the Electric Fetus for 10% off all month long!
