Blitzen Trapper have planted their hooks in my ankle and have dragged me willingly into their midst. The music is an homage to a completely different time. The lyrics paint vivid landscapes of the west. It could be their Portland, Oregon roots that give them such a distinct modern frontier sound. Add in some funky aerial electronics and you have Blitzen Trapper. Their most recent release Furr is delivered via Sub Pop Records. This band has surely pulled themselves up by their bootstraps; from self-releasing their first three albums to Rolling Stone naming their title-track “Furr,” the 4th best single of 2008.
Open your ears to: “Texaco,” “Sleepytime in the Western World,” “Wild Mountain Nation,” and “Black River Killer.”
