Matt and Kim @ Triple Rock Social Club
Not wasting anytime after a phenomenal performance, Matt and Kim plunged themselves into a drenched and bustling crowd as they dance their way through the maze of people.
But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Emerging in a cape-like contraption to kick off the show was Philly’s finest, Amanda Blank. With her two DJ’s behind her (“Matthew McConaughey” and “Bill Murray”), Blank commanded the stage by stirring life into the crowd as the beats blended together like a musical purée. But her energy was only the beginning. Her lack of lyrical inhibition is displayed through phrases like “I might like you better, baby/ Let’s get together, baby/Wanna hold you, get to know you/Show you what I got in my sweater baby.”
Next out was what we were all waiting for, the electro-pop duo, Matt and Kim. Opening with a couple of interesting attempts at The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, there was an essence of improvisation in the air. Just as soon as Matt showed off his back brace (due to a pulled muscle of some sort), Kim was singing and crowd-surfing her way around the room. Mixing songs from Matt & Kim and their latest release Grand along with a few quality covers, including Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll Part 2”, aka the “Hey Song” (fun fact). All in all, Matt and Kim pack a punch into their live performances that makes you just want to get up and dance. Pick up their new album, Grand, in stores or on iTunes soon!
